Srinagar, Feb 14 (KNO): Devotees across the valley and Muslims all over the world will seek divine mercy on Shab-e-Barat tonight, as thousands observe this night with deep religious devotion, offering night-long prayers and seeking divine mercy at major shrines and mosques. The largest congregation is expected to take place at Hazratbal Shrine, where worshippers have started gathering in large numbers to mark the sacred occasion. Meanwhile, locals have also expressed disappointment over the closure of Jama Masjid Srinagar for Shab-e-Barat observance. As per the details gathered by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), for many believers, Shab-e-Barat is a time when “Allah records destinies and showers His mercy upon those who seek forgiveness.” Devotees engage in Quranic recitations and supplications, praying for peace and prosperity. Sahil, a worshipper from Srinagar, said, “This night holds immense significance as it is believed that destinies are recorded, and Allah’s mercy is at its peak. We seek forgiveness and guidance for the times ahead.” Another devotee, Jibran, said the atmosphere at Hazratbal is going to be electric and deeply spiritual. “There is something special about standing in prayer tonight, along with thousands of others, all united in devotion and hope,” he said. Meanwhile, Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar also said the closure of Jama Masjid Srinagar for Shab-e-Barat observance is very disappointing. Sahil, a local reacting to the unavailability of Shab prayers at Jamia Masjid said, “It is sad that we were not allowed to offer prayers at Jama Masjid Srinagar. We feel disappointed. The authorities should reconsider their decision, as restrictions on prayer are very disheartening. The administration should also think about the sentiments of the locals.” Moreover, at Hazratbal Srinagar and other major shrines, authorities have made elaborate arrangements to facilitate worshippers. “Security personnel have been deployed, sanitation teams have worked through the night, and lighting arrangements are in place to ensure a smooth observance of the occasion,” said an official from the Waqf Board. He said that as thousands are expected to participate in the prayers tonight at Hazratbal, all arrangements have been made to accommodate the gathering. Lastly, it is believed that on the 14th night of the Islamic month of Sha’ban, Shab-e-Barat is a night when “Allah records destinies and showers His mercy upon those who seek forgiveness.” Devotees spend this night in prayer, asking for spiritual and worldly blessings—(KNO)
